I'll be the first to admit, I am not a songwriter. However since a lot of songs are in essence poems, there are a lot of written poetry in the public domain which one can choose to use as the base of new music.

So here we go with Twinkle by my hard rock / grunge band HĀPU‘U. They consist of four members... two guitarists, bass and a dummer. You know the standard rock band. Nothing new there except this one is just virtual. They don't exist. They are A.I. 

HĀPU‘U's first single is "Twinkle" and it is based on the nursery rhyme written in 1806 by an English poet named Jane Taylor.  From Wikipedia:

“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” is an English lullaby. The lyrics are from an early-19th-century English poem written by Jane Taylor, “The Star”.[1] The poem, which is in couplet form, was first published in 1806 in Rhymes for the Nursery, a collection of poems by Taylor and her sister Ann. It is now sung to the tune of the French melody “Ah! vous dirai-je, maman”, which was first published in 1761 and later arranged by several composers, including Mozart with Twelve Variations on “Ah vous dirai-je, Maman”.[2] The English lyrics have five stanzas, although only the first is widely known."

The entire poem got adapted to the lyrics of this song.

This song is a year in the making. It was the first song I "created" with most of the input generated by Suno; lyrics and music. Found out later that songs in the free tier do not count for commercial distribution... Whatever.

I wanted to create the kind of pop rock music that was popular in the mid 1960s mostly with the arrival of British invasion bands and later their American imitators. So what came out are The Snortles, my AI band that will be used for similar songs written by me for that virtual persona. This song brings this kind of music to the 21st century.

I created this song in September 2025 and then I let it sit for many months because the lyrics were not good enough as created by Suno's AI generator. I was also busy doing other stuff. It all went to the backburner.

I later edited the lyrics and fed the song into new prompts which turned out unlistenable copies. Yuck. So I let it "Hawaii Girl" sit again until this summer, when I had the song regenerated with revised lyrics. Two versions came out (as is the usual standard when using Suno), and I liked both. Chose one, and this is the it. I got the song remastered in Suno.

Since this song is all AI might well go all in for AI with this so called music video. "Hawaii Girl" is basically just a slide show that I assembled using various AI created images that I created for use with the song. Creating the images took several months to process. The videos were all put together in a single day and night.

Having only an older Mac for this kind of stuff, I put the whole slideshow thing into Apple's Photo app, downloaded the music, processed it using whatever iTunes is called today. I then had both the Photos and iTunes apps synchronize the music and video the best they could. I had to manually move individual images around in the slide show storyboard in order to synch it as best as possible with the song lyrics. The final result is not perfect, but for the most part it works.

The one major thing I learned from "Hawaii Girl" is it's best to write your own lyrics. That way even if the music itself cannot be copywrited, human created and written lyrics are! Just keep all of your documentation during the writing process.

This blog exists as a playground for the AI music releases from the fictional record label Magenta Rose Records. At this time releases on this label are digital only as there are no CDs, tapes or vinyl available. Fact is none of the music is for sale since it is all AI and may be freely available for download once published.

AI Music or music created by Artificial Intelligence is a new and often controversial topic online in many music circles. The only reason why I am doing this is just for fun and to what  I can get the AI to do.

I hardly have any music composition skills though in real life I have played musical instruments. I mostly dabbled with instruments such as the ukulele, trumpet and keyboards. I'm not very good in any of it, though I can read music on the treble clef side because when I was in high school band, I learned how to do that while playing trumpet.  

Like a lot of people I am obsessed with listening to many different types of music mostly in the rock, pop,  country and R&B genres. You can visit my Music Blog or my Last FM page to see what I like.

The AI Music that I have published here were all created using the Suno website and Android app. On some of the songs I have written all of the lyrics, and on others I got the AI to write them for me.  Song lyrics written by me are copyrighted as there will be a notice indicating as such.
